Treadmill
I didn’t work out Friday night. I was so tired I went to sleep at 11:30pm which is ridiculously early for me.
Today I went walking on the treadmill downstairs. Man, I haven’t done that in awhile. I used to be all psyched about going down there and was hoping to get at least 3 days a week of walking/jogging in but for some reason I started getting all self conscious and I wouldn’t go down there. Doh.
But, my cousins have gone to the mainland for a couple of weeks so I don’t need to feel self conscious anymore! Yay!
The treadmill they have is pretty neat. I love that it has a heart rate monitor and it also has a heart rate monitor training program. I was hoping to try that out today but I just couldn’t figure out how to get the program working. Hmmm. I thought I was following all of the steps, but it just wasn’t working. Grrrr. So, instead I went with a “weight loss” interval program. The level I chose was a little slow, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to handle it. At least I could manually adjust the speed and elevation so that was cool.
I walked for about 40 minutes today and threw in a couple of minutes of jogging here and there. Ideally I would like to work on getting more jogging in, but I am still a little worried on how my knee will handle that. So as a precaution I drank some unflavored gelatin tonight. I really don’t know if it works or not, but I figure it isn’t going to hurt any if I do drink it.
Of course what would help the most would be if I got some new workout shoes, but that really isn’t in my budget right now. Grrr.
After the treadmill I decided to try some pyramid strength training on my biceps or “guns” as I like to call them. I got the idea from watching some Cathe Friedrich videos. Basically you do a set with light weights, then move up to medium and then a short set with heavy weights. After the heavy weights, you go back down and do a set of medium and then a set of light weights. Yikes. My arms were burning! I worked it with 5, 8 and 12 pound dumbbells. Yea, I know not that heavy, but I am still working on getting my strength up dammit!
After that I did some walking lunges with 5 pound dumbbells. Wow! What a difference between walking and static lunges. I really felt it in my butt. I should probably incorporate those into my workouts more often.
