Procrastination
Hmmm, I’ve been procrastinating in posting my workouts. I don’t know. I just haven’t been in the mood lately.
I hit the beach again last week Tuesday. I didn’t stay in the water for too long though. I was getting that feeling like my Aunt Flow was coming and I just started freaking out that some shark was going to hunt me down and bite me in the ass. Which was very unlikely since the beach I go to is protected by a reef and I have never ever heard of a shark attack there.
Wednesday and Thursday were rest days for me, I think. I might have done the Firm sculpting ball workout on one of those days, but I don’t remember.
Friday - Hmmm, I got a new toy Friday. Oh, what did I get pray tell?
“Oh a watch? That’s it?” No, that’s not just it.
It’s not only a watch, but also a heart rate monitor! Woot! You can tell by that little heart icon on the watch face there.
I’ve been wanting one for some time, not only to see how hard I am actually working during a workout, but also because I am a gadget geek girl at heart. I got this one because it was pretty cheap for a heart rate monitor, it has more features than a really basic Polar monitor, (I think), and it also user replaceable batteries. You can input your weight and your max heart rate, which is quite helpful - especially since that allows it to tell you your calories burned. Ooh yea. The battery was also a big plus for me. You really wouldn’t think that it would be that big of a deal, but this really stands out against the Polar heart rate monitors. You see with the Polar HRM’s, if your battery dies and you want to have any kind of warranty on it, you have to send it back to Polar to get it replaced - changing the battery itself voids your warranty. Which I think is ridiculous.
I tried it out Friday night and I was completely shocked by how many calories it says I burned. I did the 20 minute workout from Turbo Jam followed by the resistance band workout from the Firm. According to the HRM, I burned something like 800 calories - which is just crazy.
I just wasn’t feeling the love Saturday, so I took it easy again that day.
I finally hit the gym again on Sunday. I just stayed about an hour, but again, it was a lot of fun. I went on the treadmill for at least 20 minutes and the elliptical for literally like 3 minutes. I spent the rest of the time working on some of the weight machines.
This time my heart rate monitor said I burned another ridiculous amount - something like a little over 700 calories in 45 minutes. This really got me confused. I was checking my HRM vs the stats on the treadmill when I first got there. Both the HRM and the HRM on the treadmill gave me similar readings when it came to heart rate, but they really differed when it came to calorie burn. Like when the treadmill said that I burned 40 calories, my watch gave me a figure of something like 90 calories burned - which really confused me.
I spent I don’t know how long Sunday night trying to figure out why there would be such a difference, but I think I figured it out. The max heart rate on my watch was set too low, so when I was exercising the watch thought I was just going really kooky with the cardio when I was just moderately kooky.
Oh well. Someday I want to see a reading where I burned something like 1000 calories in an hour. I think it could happen, but I shall see.
Monday night I did the Firm Volume 4 aka the short workout. This time my HRM said I burned about 600 calories in about 45 minutes. Yikes!
Ach. I can totally see myself obsessing over this data. I am already thinking I should bring a notebook to the gym so I can log all the data I gather there. Eeek. I am such a nerd.
Whew, so now I am caught up on my workouts.
