This is something that bugs me from time to time. In fact it bugged me so much the other night, I couldn’t sleep until I wrote most of this stuff down. I don’t know if it’s because I am getting older or it’s because of the realization that my memory is not the same as it used to be.
This is a post about all of the bands/noteable musical performers I have seen in my life so far.
This is not a bragging post either, well, okay, I might brag about some of them, but this is mostly so I can remember. Of course, even though this list might be considered extensive in some people’s eyes, I am pretty sure I am forgetting a couple of bands here and there. This list also is not in chronological order since my memory is fairly good, but not that good.
Oh, I was also pretty darn lucky in the 90’s. There were a couple of really nice small venues that a lot of “alternative” bands would play at - small clubs that could hold maybe a few hundred people. Of course, those places have since shut down and Hawaii is no longer the alt music hot spot it once was.
I was also a DJ at the college radio station for almost a year. I had a really sucky time slot, but I got a ton of free concert tickets, so I got to see a bunch of great bands for FREE!!!! Hells Yea!
I think the next “big” band that is coming is “My Chemical Romance,” ehn, unless of course you would rather see the band “America.” (No, I am not kidding) Yet another reason why I miss Portland. This is the list I came up with. HERE WE GO!
- Andy Gibb
- Sean Cassidy
- Menudo (don’t laugh, I was 11 years old!)
- Missing Persons
- The Go Gos
- Cyndi Lauper
- Oingo Boingo
- A-Ha
- Julian Lennon
- Bon Jovi
- INXS
- Depeche Mode
- Gerardo (Rico Suave guy)
- Stray Cats
- Prince (I can’t remember if I only saw him once or twice though. Doh)
- LA Style
- 808 State
- Cocteau Twins
- Gin Blossoms (sort of - they were playing my college campus center and I listened in for a couple of songs - I thought they sucked)
- The Eagles
- The Rolling Stones (saw them twice!)
- 7 Year Bitch
- Meat Puppets
- Beck
Cibo Matto I got confused, I actually saw Shonen Knife, not Cibo Matto.
- My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult
- Mighty Might Bosstones
- Less Than Jake
- Third Eye Blind with Ben Folds Five
- Ozzy Osbourne
- Morphine
- Crystal Method and the Orb
- Phillip Glass with the Kronos Quartet
- Nine Inch Nails (sort of - damn Trent Reznor came on stage, did a couple of songs, did something, cut his hand and canceled the rest of the show - with NO refunds - bastards)
- Fiona Apple
- Ani DiFranco
- Tone Loc with Vanilla Ice
- Alanis Morissette
- Chris Penn
- Throbbing Gristle
- Richie Hawtin
- GWAR
- Beastie Boys

- Fischerspooner
- Sleater-Kinney
- Sonic Youth
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Bloc Party
- Smashing Pumpkins
- DAVID BOWIE
- Chemical Brothers
- Tom Jones
- Matsuken
- Nirvana (I was right in front of Kurt Cobain for the whole show. I held my hand out in front of him at one point and he grabbed it. I didn’t want to let go. The show was the week he married Courtney Love)
November 5th, 2007
This week has been pretty blah.
I had my last few days of vacation and then my Mom came home on Thursday. I had some things lined up, but none of my plans really panned out.
I did start working out again - so YAY! I’ll get to that in my obligatory workout post after this one.
I headed to the beach Tuesday and unfortunately, I think my beach going days are quite numbered. The water is just getting too chilly for it to be worth it anymore. Well, relatively chilly. It was really nice going throughout the summer since the days would be so hot and humid - it would just be so gosh darn wonderful getting into the water and cooling off. But now, our weather is changing and the sun is setting earlier, so it is usually cloudy and overcast in the afternoon by the time I get there.
Oh well. It’s okay though because this means that I can concentrate on doing different kinds of workouts now instead of just kicking around the water.
I should have cleaned my place up on Tuesday in anticipation of my Mom coming back, but I just wasn’t feeling it and worked out instead. I’ll have a review of that later.
I had big plans for Halloween - none of which involved doing anything relating to Halloween, but all of my plans fell through because I hardly got any sleep Tuesday night. I was planning on treating myself to a nice lunch at Makino Chaya and then maybe seeing a movie that night. But I was too tired to do much of anything at all that day.
My neighbors are building an expansion to their house and their workers showed up and well, they used mini excavators - all day.

I couldn’t get a picture of the other one, but there were 2 mini excavators going all day. Now, if I went to bed at a normal time, they wouldn’t have been a problem. But, I worked out that night and I watched a video, so I didn’t. I think I got maybe 3 hours of sleep that night/morning, so I was too tired to do much of anything at all that day.
I really didn’t want to stay home on Halloween mostly because I just didn’t want to have to hand out candy. But, it rained off and on all day Wednesday and that night, so we didn’t get any Trick or Treaters anyway! Yay!
A friend of mine came over to help me clean, but I have a hard time cleaning when someone else is there, so I didn’t get much cleaning done that night as well. I also couldn’t sleep that night either. I have no idea why. I was tired, but I ended up lying in bed for like 5 hours before I could pass out. Now, that is annoying.
I got up early Thursday to check on my Mom’s flight and found out that the plane had been diverted to Los Angeles! What?! Honestly, I started freaking out a bit when I saw that. I mean, there are only a few reasons why planes get diverted and so I figured it was mechanical failure or because of a medical emergency. I then proceeded to freak with worry wondering if my Mom suffered a heart attack on the plane. Now, I know that I worry a lot about a lot of things I shouldn’t worry about, but considering my Mom’s state of health, well, I did start to worry.
I called her like 15 minutes after the plane landed in California and I was right - it was a medical emergency, but it wasn’t my Mom.
Her plane did get in about 5 hours later than expected and of course the first thing she wanted to do when I picked her up was to get something to eat.
My vacation is over now. Sigh. Man, she stresses me out sooo freaking much, I am having trouble dealing with it. She constantly talks about food, she is always complaining or makes asinine comments. It was so nice not having to deal with her and now she’s back.
My next door neighbor has a baby and they invited us to their daughter’s First birthday party this Saturday. It was a medium sized get together I suppose. There were quite a few people there and it was, well pretty boring. They had some cover band playing and the sound was turned up waaay too high. There was also the requisite balloon maker person and man, the balloons these days are so fancy. This guy was making penguins and tiaras for the little kids. Of course I didn’t get any pictures of those.
The food was okay - standard Hawaiian/Local fare. There was rice, lau lau, lomi lomi salmon, beef stew, chicken long rice, chinese noodles, pineapple and haupia. Of course, I didn’t really get pictures of those things, but I did take a few shots of things that fancied my interest.

The foil the lau lau was wrapped in.

Some leftover fat from the stuff that was in the lau lau.
Now, the lau lau was pretty good and I normally don’t eat the stuff, but I just can’t stand chunks of fat in my food. This was one chunk I pulled out and smashed down with a fork. I think it looks so strange, like something you would see in a medical journal or something! Yea, I’m weird.
Our rainy season has begun as well. It rained a bit on Tuesday, a lot on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday was surprisingly clear, but it rained a ton on Saturday and Sunday. One area of my island got 14 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. Nope, not a typo - 14 inches! That’s just insane! I don’t have a rain gauge, but I think we probably got about 4 inches of rain over the last 2 days. I can dig it. I mean, we need the rain and the flashes of lightening are cool too. We are supposed to keep getting rain off and on at least until Tuesday, so whooppeee!!!

Yup, that’s a fun doppler image!
I took some pictures of my kitty Rayne this week, so I just thought I would share them. None of them came out very well since I was using my Olympus “action” camera. Grrr. The batteries are dead in my good camera and I don’t know where the charger is for that one.
