Beach Day
It was a beach day today. I was supposed to help my Mom clean up our porch, but I got up late. Doh. I stayed up and watched all of Sicko last night.
Man, I have such a hard time watching Michael Moore movies. For some reason, I usually find myself crying at some point either during or after the movie. Maybe it’s because of the frustration I feel as a liberal/social democrat stuck in this capitalist society of ours or because I wish people were more open to change to better our society.
The film definitely got me thinking about what is going on in American society. I am going through historical periods trying to figure out the causes as to how we’ve gotten to be the way we are, but I definitely need to do more research.
Woot! Car Alarm Alert! Oh, it’s off now.
I also wonder if this is what I could go back to school for. It never really dawned on me before but I am actually very interested in sociology. It’s something I think about from time to time - the societal interactions and how people have come to act the way they do. It’s certainly something I would like to look in to.
It was kind of hot today and the skies were clear so, like I mentioned, I headed to the beach. Oh man, it was awesome. I hadn’t been to the beach in over a week, I think. The water didn’t seem as cold as it had before. The sun was shining and there were no clouds to block it.
There were quite a few people at the park but not that many people in the water for some reason. I suppose the beach will get more crowded this weekend, since it is a 3 day weekend and all.
I wasn’t very active in the water though. I just kicked between the lifeguard stands a couple of times and the rest of the time I spent just hanging out in the water. I think I finally figured out the approximate distance between the life guard stands though. Through the wonders of Google Earth, I am pretty sure that the distance is about 100m! Wow! I always figured it might have been about 70, but based on the path I chose, it looks like it is a little over 100 meters! Yowza!
One neat thing happened close to shore too. I was just looking towards the sand and all of a sudden, hundreds of those tiny little shore fish starting jumping out of the water close to shore. It was so odd just seeing all of these little lines of silver flying close to shore. I saw it happen a couple of times too.
It’s late again. I really should get to bed now so I can clean up my back porch later.
