Misdirection

A little while ago I posted a brief news story about Cyrus Belt. He was a little boy who was thrown off a pedestrian bridge onto the freeway below. It’s quite a heartbreaking story that someone would do something like that to well, anyone.

But, I am started to get really, really, really annoyed with the news coverage here about this. The child was thrown off of a bridge by a mentally unstable neighbor of the child, who might also have been a crystal meth addict. Who was to blame for his death? Well, in my opinion, the person who threw him off the bride would be to blame, but you would never know it from all of the news stories here.

I think this story pretty much sums up who the media is promoting as the guilty party or parties if you will. Don’t want to read the story? Well, it seems like a lot of folks here are blaming the mother and the State for the child’s death and it is really pissing me off.

The mother apparently used to have drug problems and Cyrus was taken away from her for a really brief time period and there has just been so much focus on this aspect of this child’s life that it seems like almost everyone here is blaming this child’s death on his mother and the State for giving him back to his parent, instead of focusing on a mentally unstable young man who threw the freaking kid off the bridge! What the hell???!!!!???

It’s like blaming the rape victim for being raped. “Oh this woman was a terrible mother which is why her neighbor threw her kid off the bridge!” Yea, I don’t think so. I just don’t understand why people are focusing so much on the mother and not on the person who actually committed this crime. (Okay, okay, innocent until proven guilty).

I am sure no one would be expressing all of this blame on the mother if she was some rich, white lady.

Ugh, this headline really sucks in my opinion too.

I Need A Raise

Wow, I did some things I never thought I would do while working this session.  I worked for almost a full day on Saturday and I put in a 2 hour day today.  Yikes!

We had an important meeting Saturday and our assistant clerk was unavailable, so silly me, I volunteered to come in and help thinking that it was only going to be for a couple of hours.  Ha!  I got there at 9am and left a little after 4pm.  Now, if I was smart, I would have gone to the gym afterwards, but I was so tired, I just headed home.

I stayed up too late last night, but have finally realized that if I shower at night, I can “sleep in” a little in the mornings, so I think I am going to do that from now on.  I wasn’t completely zapped at the end of the day so I decided to stay late to try to catch up on some stuff - hence the 12 hour day.

I am finding that a lot of work I do is, in my opinion, completely unnecessary.  I don’t want to get into too many details, but it’s just getting extremely difficult to keep up with all of the tasks that I am being given.  Extremely difficult unless I continuously put in 12 hour days and frankly, I am not getting paid enough to work that hard.

I am so backed up, I even considered going into work on Sunday, until I slapped myself out of it and realized just how badly I needed a day off.
