I Need To Socialize More
Friday at work was soooo nice!!!! There weren’t any deadlines and everyone was pretty much cruising all day. It was great. I did have to go to a meeting for my boss which lasted almost 2.5 hours in the middle of the day, but it was on a subject that I am very much interested in, so it was cool.
I was really nervous at this meeting though since I pretty much had to give “testimony” and represent my boss’ views. I hadn’t spoken in front of such a large group of people since, I don’t even know when. I know I spoke faster than I normally do and was shaking a little, but I got it over with. I think I saw some flyer at work for a toastmasters meeting. Maybe I should look into that - especially if I continue my career at the office. I’ll see how that goes.
I did something I haven’t done in a looong time Friday after work too. I actually went to a bar with some co workers. It was weird. I only knew one of the people I went with, but the people I went with seemed cool enough. Of course they all pretty much knew each other, so I was definitely the odd one out, but it was okay.
We went to this bar called Indigo in downtown Honolulu. During the day it’s a fusion eatery and at night turns into a regular bar/night club. I was really surprised at how many “urban” 30 somethings were there. The main reason we went was because Chelsea Clinton was going to be there. She’s in town campaigning for her mother before Tuesday’s Democratic caucus. I didn’t get to meet her but did see her in a large crowd of people and she is actually very pretty in person.
I was pretty surprised at the eye candy at the bar though. We met a couple of really and I mean really attractive guys there. I didn’t make any moves on them though since 1) I felt so self conscious because of my weight and 2) they looked like they were in their early 20’s. Gawd. I really need to lose some weight - and get a makeover. The clothes I have now fit, bit they are a little big, so I think they make me look a little bigger than I actually am. Of course, I still look fat. HA!
It’s just really hard for me to find clothes that fit, are flattering and don’t make me look like a freaking Grandma around here. I really wish there was a Torrid in Hawaii. I should pick up some things online, but it’s really difficult when you don’t know how their sizes run. I remember buying something online based on my measurements and the dress I bought should have fit, but it was too big when I got it. Oh well.
But, yea, the eye candy. The first hottie we ran into looked really familiar to all of us, but we couldn’t quite place where he was familiar from. This gay guy who was with us is really chatty so he started talking to him and the hottie works in the same building we all do - so that’s why he looked so familiar. A friend of his then showed up and OMG, he was a hottie too.
I left the bar after a couple of hours since I was tired and really wanted to have a drink, but couldn’t because I had to drive home. I did leave with a smile on my face though since I said good bye to both of the hotties and they did that whole Hawaiian greeting thing where the guy gives you a kiss on the cheek. So that was cool.
My friend invited me to another function tonight where Chelsea Clinton was supposed to show up to, but I was soo tired this morning and felt a little queasy, so I passed. I think she is supposed to be at yet another function at this bar in town tomorrow, but I don’t know if I am going to go to that one. Maybe if my friend drives so I can at least have 1 cocktail.
I am hoping this bar thing on Fridays becomes a regular thing so I can get out and meet more people - or at least invite my man crush so I can get to know him better. Hahahhahahahahah.
So, tonight was a relatively quiet night. I hung out with a friend of mine, got a little shopping done and got some ice cream. It was funny at the ice cream parlor because right before we went in, we bumped into an old classmate of ours who I hadn’t seen, well since high school. So that brief catch up was nice.
I was going to go into work today, so I could just clear out my inbox completely, but I was so tired I didn’t. I should probably go in tomorrow and get as much done as I can. The one big drawback though is that the elevators won’t be running normally, so I won’t be able to get to the ground level and take a break outside. Dangit. I could always just get in the car and take a break, but I would hate to waste gas just for that. I’ll see what happens.
