Oh Yea, Updates

May 29th, 2008

Wow, I can’t believe that May is almost over. It’s been an interesting month I suppose. My job ended, but like I mentioned in the previous post, I am pretty sure it is going to be starting again next week. Ooof, my sleep schedule is all screwed up again, so going to back to a “normal” sleep schedule is going to be weird.

I previously wrote that my Aunt and Uncle were in town, but I didn’t really say why. They came down because we finally buried my Grand Aunt and my Grandma a couple of weeks ago. The funny thing about my Grand Aunt - my Grandma kept her ashes after she passed away and my Grandma would sometimes feel bad because she couldn’t remember where she put her sister’s ashes. Whoops. I finally found the urn after my Grandma passed away and was cleaning the house up.

We placed my Grand Aunt’s ashes into the “grave” with my Great Grandparents.
The Headstone Thing

The headstone that the ashes are kept in.

After the Memorial Service

Urns in the Graveyard

This is what it looks like inside of “headstone.” I simply can not remember what these types of headstones are called. The marker on top has the names of the “occupants” and there is a hole in the bottom where you place the ashes. This is space where the ashes are kept. The urn on the left contains the ashes of my Great Grandparents.

Setting Up

Right after that service, we headed over to a neighboring graveyard where we buried my Grandma’s ashes. I think it was nice of the graveyard to put the tent up for shade. I could not sit down on any of the chairs though since it was placed directly over other graves in the area and I just couldn’t do it. It just freaked me out.

The Memorial Service

One last look at my Grandma.

Prayers

The priest who performed both services. It was a buddhist service. I thought I was going to be okay, but I started losing it when we went to offer incense. I really miss my Grandma.

The Box

This is what the box under the headstone looks like. It’s just a concrete box.

The Ashes

This is what it looks like inside the box with the various urns in it. This grave basically contains the majority of my family members. We all crowded around it when it was opened since it really isn’t something that you see everyday. We also made sure that my Grandma was placed right next to my Grandpa.

I really miss my Grandparents.

I also went and saw comedienne extraordinaire Kathy Griffin at the Waikiki Shell last weekend.  OMFG, she was hilarious!  She poked fun at mostly pop culture stuff, but I haven’t laughed that hard in I don’t know how long.  I was laughing so hard at the end of her set, I was crying!  I was pretty impressed too, she was on for almost an hour and a half!

I think the last “big name” I saw was Howie Mandel and that was almost 20 years ago.  Sheesh.  Going to the Waikiki Shell was pretty weird.  While I was waiting for my friends, I realized that I hadn’t been to the Shell in about 20 years as well.  I just couldn’t remember if the last show I went to there was Julien Lennon or A-Ha.  Yes, that is how long it’s been.

We were all pretty tired after the show, so we didn’t go out.  Doh.  I was wearing a dress that really showed off my ta-tas, so I was thinking of just hitting a club later that night.  But, I hadn’t eaten all day, so I got home, ate something and then passed out.  Man, I feel old.

I am kind of kicking myself for missing Doc Martin last week too.  I never caught him in his heyday and I was pretty surprised to find out he was still spinning.  He actually came and did a set at one of the hipster clubs in china town, but yea I missed that.  Oh well.

I think I will dust off my dancing shoes and hit a club this weekend though.  A friend of mine’s canoe club is having a fund raiser at this club that has been around for ages.  I also found out that these other buddies of mine were planning on going there this weekend to meet up with some people they knew from grade school too.  So it should be an interesting night.  Woot!
