More Push-Ups

Well, this weekend started off okay. I went to Makino Chaya with a couple of friends of mine on Friday since it was a State holiday and we had time off.
The food was okay. The place was actually quite crowded and filled with a gazillion tourists. That was disappointing. One of my dining companions said the place was pretty empty the last time he went there for lunch. Plus, what sucked too was that they raised the price for lunch because it was a State holiday. Grrrr. Oh well.
After lunch we hit the Bodies exhibit at Ala Moana Center. Admission was half off since it was Admission Day in Hawaii. Woot! I love bargains! We had to wait in line for an hour to get in though. That sucked majorly. But, I am glad I got to see it. It was quite interesting seeing all of the different body parts - dissected for your viewing pleasure. I was pretty apprehensive that I was going to get sick while in the exhibit, but I was okay throughout the whole thing. Although you knew you were looking at real people, (aka dead Chinese prisoners), it wasn’t that bad because everything looked like plastic. If things were more gooey, I definitely would have required a sick bag or something.
Technology is such a bitch goddess. They use a process called polymer preservation to preserve the corpses. The gist of it is that they dehydrate the body and then pump in a type of plastic to preserve the shape of the organ, tissue, etc. They had a couple of samples you could touch at the end of the exhibit and it was pretty freaky. I held part of someone’s preserved brain for a few moments and it was heavy. I don’t know if that is because the organ itself is heavy or because of the plastic. It felt like a rubber toy actually.
Cameras weren’t allowed inside and I didn’t bring my small camera to get some smuggled pictures either. I guess no photography is allowed so you would buy one of their photo books in the gift shop - conveniently placed at the end of the exhibit before the exit.
I was pretty beat, but I came home and then decided to hit the gym to jump start my Olympic challenge again.
The next day, we went to the Hilton Hawaiian Village for my cousin’s wedding. I really didn’t want to go because I don’t think I’ve ever met this cousin and we were there because my Mom invited herself. It was a nice ceremony I guess. They got married on the beach in front of the hotel. The bonus was that it was a short ceremony. Being the idiot I can be though, I forgot to put on any sunscreen thinking I would be okay considering how often I go to the beach. I was wrong. So very wrong. My shoulders got pretty burnt. I don’t think I am going to peel, but shoulders are pretty red. I also got that wonderful sunglasses tan on my face. Great. I have a reverse raccoon face going on.
After the ceremony, we were walking back to the hotel and I just had to stop and take some pictures of this bird on a rock in front of one of the restaurants. It looked like a sculpture - it was so still. I guess it was hunting some of the small fishes in the pond, but it was just fascinating. I was just going to go home after that, but stayed and had lunch with my Mom and cousin instead. I am really glad I did because I got my parking stub validated and saved $21 in parking fees! Heck Yea!
They were going to go to dinner at Benihana as well, but I skipped on that because I just felt like we would be imposing on my cousin. I swear, the only reason why I knew this guy getting married was my cousin was because I saw him and his bride in their fancy clothes in the lobby. Otherwise, I would have had no idea who he was
I also didn’t want to go to this wedding because I am still so very heart broken from my last breakup. It’s been 2 years, but it is still so very painful for me. I believe my ex has already gotten married too. Great, just great. After all of those years of him telling him that he didn’t believe in marriage. I guess he just didn’t believe in marrying me.
Uggh, I am just having my own little pity party. It definitely has put me into a funk for the last couple of days though. I wish I could just have a normal relationship with someone.
Anyways, I hit the gym for a second day in a row that night. I just had to get away and try to work some of my emotions out.
I spent most of Sunday trying to relax, but I just kept thinking about work and all of the work that I am behind. I had actually brought some work home with me, but after speaking with my co-worker, I decided not to bother.
Monday. Oh man, Monday was such a sucky day. I finally said something to my boss about the amount of work she gives us. I was kind of ticked anyway because she scheduled a meeting from 5pm to 6:30pm in a couple of days, and she basically expects me to sit in on it, even though I get off of work at 4pm. After speaking to her about our workload, she pretty much blew me and my co-worker off and implied that I wasn’t doing my job because I wasn’t working 10 to 12 hour days. Um, yea. She hired me on as a part timer at 30 hours a week because she didn’t want to fire the person I was replacing. The rest of this is going to be private, but my boss is basically making me feel like I suck at my job, when I am just doing the best I can.
Dammit, I need to get to bed.
